Introducing the Firelight Diamond

January 30th, 2010

Firelight Diamond Billboard

At Mark Loren Designs, we are thrilled to announce our very own exclusive new diamond cut. After almost a year or research and development we are pleased to present the Firelight Diamond. While standard round brilliant cut diamonds have 57 facets, our Firelight Diamond has 81 facets to release the stone’s inner fire. The extra facets allow more points of light to enter the diamond and create more brilliance. Each Firelight Diamond is accompanied by a European Gemological Laboratory Diamond Certificate Report.  The report number and Firelight Diamond insignia are laser inscribed on the girdle of each diamond.

We are excited to have a cut that is unique to Mark Loren Designs.  Our clients look to us to bring them unique and unusual jewelry pieces. The Firelight Diamond is just another facet of our commitment to fulfill our clients wishes.  Please stop in and experience the brilliance of the Firelight Diamond for yourself.

The gift is great, now if only it fit…

December 28th, 2009

ringsizingOur elves (aka bench jewelers) have been busy working to get pieces ready for Christmas, but their work is not yet over! Rings make great gifts, but it’s hard to guess at someone’s ring size. There is a rumor going around that your finger size is the same as your shoe size – what a silly myth! If the ring is perfect, but it’s not the perfect size, we can fix it! Resizing can be complicated, which is why it is important to take your jewelry to a jeweler you trust, who is a master-craftsman, and has the right tools for the job. Most people don’t realize that stones other than rubies, sapphires, and diamonds are heat sensitive – which means they have to be protected from the flame during sizing. Metal conducts heat, so extra care and specialized equipment (like our laser welder, which allows us to weld without heating up the entire ring) are needed to insure your ring isn’t damaged during sizing. Also, the jeweler should check and tighten any stones that loosen up during resizing. Sizing a ring changes the circumference – that change can cause the settings to loosen their grip on small accent stones. We pay attention to these details, and we stand behind our work! Trust our expertise for the best ring resizing in Fort Myers / Southwest Florida!

Opening up a box from master chocolatier Norman Love Confections is a thrill in itself, but this holiday season, it’s about to get even sweeter. That’s because Love is teaming up with renowned jeweler Mark Loren to plant sweet surprises in some boxes of his signature chocolates during the duo’s “12 Gems of Christmas” promotion.

The idea is a spinoff of Loren’s “Finders Keepers” promotion, during which he and his staff at Mark Loren Designs are placing pieces of his unique jewelry around Lee County for residents and visitors to find and keep in celebration of the business’ 25th anniversary. Love, who was recently named one of North America’s top 10 Chocolatiers by Dessert Professional Magazine, also has something to celebrate this holiday season.

“Celebrating milestones like our business’ anniversary or Norman’s honor are so much more fun and meaningful when you can share them with the customers and businesses that helped get us where we are today,” Loren says.

Love agrees, adding, “Teaming up with Mark was natural for me. We’re both very involved in the community and giving back. We’re also both committed to the art of our respective crafts – whether it’s chocolate or jewelry, we aim to give our customers something unique, creative and artistic.” In fact, many customers liken Love’s chocolate boxes to fine jewelry boxes.

Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence!

Mark-Loren-Designs-Finders-Keepers-bag-300x225

Twenty-five years ago, Mark Loren Designs opened its doors for the first time, bringing Southwest Florida a new kind of jewelry experience – with a focus on artistic design, rare and beautiful gems, and the highest quality of craftsmanship.

We are sharing our excitement with our clientele and the community!  As part of Mark Loren Designs’ 25th anniversary celebration, Mark and members of the staff will be placing small surprises around Lee County for residents and visitors to find, with tags that read: “Congratulations! This gift is for you. Finders – Keepers.”

Unique Jewelry ranging in value from $100 to more than $4,000 in Mark Loren Designs’ signature black and gold gift bags may be spotted in any business around the county.  Restaurants, offices, the tube at the bank drive through, park benches, even your doctor’s exam room – they’re all fair game.

We want to involve and thank customers who have supported us over the years, and the businesses they own and work for. We also want everyone to have an opportunity to find one of our pieces wherever they dine, shop or do business.

The idea was generated after a man came into the gallery to return a ring he had found with a Loren signature inside.  One of our customers had lost it in May and was thrilled to be reunited with her ring.  Inspired by his honesty, Loren thought it would be nice if someone could find one of his pieces and keep it in good conscience.

In addition to owning a beautiful piece of jewelry, the lucky finders also win an invitation to attend a VIP event Mark Loren Designs is planning for the spring to unveil a new diamond cut, “the Firelight”. They are also eligible to register to win a signature piece worth $10,000 – featuring the new diamond

cut – that will be given away at the event.

Residents should keep their eyes peeled for the designer’s well-known black bags and armored trucks wherever they go.

Mark will also be giving a special gift to the client who brings in the oldest Mark Loren Designs receipt!  Dig through your records for a vintage Mark Loren receipt, and you may be the lucky winner.

Exquisite Gifts for Men

In the gallery, we are all a buzz with excitement over the new William Henry line.  These knives are amazing!
Each one is hand-crafted in the United States with rare materials from around the world, that are tough enough for daily use and exotic enough to surprise even the most jaded collector.

Each component is precision machined to tolerances reserved for aerospace level work — often measured at 0.0005″, or one twelfth the size of a human hair. The final fit, finish, action, and sharpness of each knife are achieved entirely by hand, employing the irreplaceable craftsmanship developed by generations of master cutlers.

Every pocket knife produced by William Henry Studio is a distinctive heirloom-quality testament to the art of knifemaking. Each piece takes more than seven months to produce, and incorporates the work of more than 30 artisans across 800 individual operations.

William Henry creates a range of tools so perfectly conceived and executed that they transcend superlative function to become superlative art.  These cutting instruments offer unmatched performance as daily carry tools and are found among the finest collections in the world.

Men are so hard to shop for, and what a great tradition to start!  Heirloom knives that can actually be used daily!

Mark Loren Designs hosts Chamber of Commerce Women in Business

June 18th, 2009

Mark Loren Designs hosted the monthly Chamber of Commerce Women In Business meeting. The theme was Safety / Security in honor of June being National Safety Month. Cameron spoke about the importance of having jewelry properly appraised and insured. It is vital, especially in times like these when crime is high, that your jewelry has a current appraisal and is covered on your home owners insurance. Most insurance companies request an updated appraisal every 3-5 years. We also had a guest speaker from Crime Prevention Consultants who provided us with some very useful tips and information on keeping ourselves and homes safe from burglary. We unveiled the new design for the Apex Award pin/pendant – which is given to the winner of the Apex Award for her professional excellence, community service and her active role in assisting others in attaining professional goals and leadership skills. We designed the pin using our CAD program and are donating the piece to express our appreciation for the remarkable achievements of the winner.

In the News: Reunited with a long lost ring

May 14th, 2009

lost-and-found-storyMark Loren Designs was pleased to be able to help reunite Virginia De Shazo with her long lost ring! Another client, Thomas Donovan, had found the ring on the street and recognized the Loren hallmark inside the shank. He brought it to the store in hopes that we would be able to track down its owner; however, due to the volume of custom work we have done over the years – it was impossible to trace the origins. The ring was put in the showcase in hopes that its owner might stop in and recognize it. On Thursday, Virginia stopped in and mentioned her distress over losing the ring Mark had redesigned for her using her engagement ring diamond and 5 diamonds from her 50th anniversary band. Mark showed Virginia the ring and she teared up – it was a six stone design just as she’d described, she also remembered the finger size. An old appraisal was dug up and that proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the ring was in fact Virginia’s. We were so pleased to be able to return her ring to her!
